It’s a lovely and great place to study. Many great personalities and influential  Nigerians  today are products of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

University of Lagos was created for the intention of making it a non-resident university for all Nigerians. But some high officials from the Nigerian educational board for some reasons decided to make it a traditional university. The school was established on the authority of the University of Lagos Act of 1962 and it started operation on the 22nd of October, 1962.

Every section of the school is operated by the authority of the provisional council and senate of the university presides over the academic matters and affairs of the school. However, the College of Medicine is ruled by a different body.

University of Lagos (UNILAG) consists of two separate institutions;

  • Main Campus (Main University)
  • Medical School (Autonomous)

The chancellor represents the university in all matters and concerns of the school. He is the head and carries the responsibility of conferring degrees. And on the other hand, the Vice Chancellor is a seconder to the Chancellor and he orders the daily activities of the school. He also passes order in the absence of the Chancellor. He, however is accountable to the School Council.

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) represents the students in the university. SRC also takes on the interest of the students to air their minds and views on any area of need of the students to the school senate during meetings. The representative must be ratified by the Dean of Student Affairs.
